Professor Arguelles

If you are an avid learner of languages, I would be surprised if haven’t heard of Professor Arguelles. He is one of those amazing polyglots who can speak an amazing amount of languages. This native English speaker is currently at least conversational and/or has deep knowledge of the literature of the languages French, German, Spanish, Latin, Greek, Sanskrit, Medieval French, Gothic, Old High German, Old Norse, Swedish, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese, Korean, Arabic, Russian, Irish, Persian, Hindi, Turkish and Swahili.

Professor Arguelles has said that he believes there are no secret formulas to learn a language. He says that the key to learning a language is “systematic and disciplined hard work over long periods of time.”

Personally, I like learning languages. I always try to do something in one of my target languages every day even if it is only for 15 minutes. However, this talented polyglot puts in hours a day to learn and maintain his languages.

Of course, we can’t all do this. We have lives, family and careers. However, one thing Professor Arguelles uses to learn all those languages is lots of dedication. So if you have dedication, you will learn your target language.
